Where is Thailand located?

Thailand is located in Southeast Asia, bordered by Myanmar (Burma) to the north and west, Laos to the northeast, Cambodia to the southeast, and Malaysia to the south.

The capital and largest city of Thailand is Bangkok. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world.

The official language is Thai. In major tourist areas, you can easily communicate in English, and Russian is becoming more popular in Phuket.

The currency of Thailand is the Thai Baht. 1 USD is approximately 34 THB, but the exchange rate can fluctuate daily.

As of April 2023, Thailand’s population is about 70 million people.

The main religion in Thailand is Buddhism.

The national sport of Thailand is Muay Thai, or Thai boxing.

Thailand has a tropical climate, with a rainy season from May to October and a dry season from November to April.

Thailand’s weather is pleasant year-round, but the best time to visit is from November to February. During this period, the temperature is cooler with less rain, ideal for sightseeing and outdoor activities. However, this is also the peak season, so expect higher prices and more tourists. For Phuket and Koh Phi Phi (west coast), the best time is from November to April, with sunny and dry weather, and temperatures ranging from 25°C to 32°C. For Koh Samui (east coast), the peak season is from December to April, with average temperatures ranging from 25°C to 30°C. April, May, September, and October are great for lower prices and fewer tourists, with pleasant weather.

Thai cuisine is known for its vibrant flavors and the use of fresh herbs and spices such as lemongrass, chili, and basil. Popular dishes include:

  • Tom Yum: A hot and sour soup made with mushrooms, lime leaves, herbs, and spices.
  • Pad Thai: Fried rice noodles with egg, soy sprouts, tofu, peanuts, and other ingredients like chicken or shrimp.
  • Green Curry: A coconut milk-based soup with fresh green chili peppers.
